What can you expect?

Accompanied by an experienced guide, you depart from Paramaribo in a south-westerly direction with a bus to the river village "Atjoni" at the upper reaches of the Suriname River. There you board the longboat towards "Kosindo" on the Gran Rio river, the base for various trips. This is about 5-6 hours sailing, located on the water level of the Suriname River.

In "Kosindo" you spend the night in comfortable lodges, with private bathroom and toilet. From here you will spread over a number of days, depending on your multi-day reservation, including a village walk in a village of "Maroons", forest walk, swimming, fishing, evening boat trip, morning boat trip, fishing at the rapids of "Awarradam", visits to the local population, the "Maroons".

The "Langu area" consists of 8 villages, where they still live in an authentic way. The names of the 8 villages are: Bendiwata, Kuututeng, Ligolio, Begoon, Kajana, Deboö, Godowata, Stonhuku.

All activities are accompanied by an experienced guide with a lot of knowledge about the environment, nature and culture.

Tour are includes 3 meals per day and drinks (except alcoholic drink), snacks/fruit/local food.

Transport.

Transportation is by bus and boat. It's an adventurous journey of approximately 8 hours.

 

Tour schedule per day.

Day 1: you depart from "Paramaribo" to the Langu area. From "Paramaribo" we leave by bus to "Atjoni" where we stop once on the way for a sanitary stop. Arriving at "Atjoni" we have lunch there. From "Atjoni" we sail to the Langu area. At "Tapawatra" we transfer to another boat. At "Grandam" we transfer to another boat. After this we sail towards the "Langu area". At low water level of the Suriname river, we spend the night before "Tapawatra". You will hear this in advance. Arriving at "Kosindo" you will be assigned a lodge and then we will have the evening meal.

Day 2: after breakfast we go for a walk in the woods. We have lunch again on "Kosindo" and then a village walk. After a village walk we go back to "Kosindo" and you can relax. After dinner, we take an evening boat trip.

Day 3: Before breakfast we will do a morning boat trip, on return from the boat trip we will have breakfast at "Kosindo". After breakfast mashing rice in the village "Godowatta". we have lunch on Kosindo and after lunch we go swimming and fishing at "Awarradam" rapids. Traditional dance after dinner (from 4 guests).

Day 4: This day can be filled in at your own discretion. You can relax on "Kosindo"

Day 5: Back to "Paramaribo" where we have our lunch at "Atjoni".

 

with a 4 day tour you will return to Paramaribo on day 4.

It is possible that the program looks slightly different from day to day.

 

What should you bring when you go on a tour?

- Passport (we pass a police checkpoint),

- 2 long trousers or zip-off trousers,

- 2 long-sleeved shirts,

- socks,

- (hiking boots,

- Slippers or sandals,

- water shoes,

- T-shirts,

- Shorts),

- Raincoat/cape, cap or sun hat,

- Sunglasses, suntan lotion,

- Insect repellent (Deet),

- Swimwear,

- Film/photo camera and charger,

N.B. If you want to take a photo or film of local people, ask permission from the guide first. Then ask the person in question.

- Flashlight,

- Bath soap,

- Toothbrush and toothpaste,

- Towel,

- Possibly binoculars if you have them.
